We saw bears, a baby cheetah, elks, birds, antelopes, hogs, a rhino, and much much more.

It may be a surprise but I had Burger King for dinner and sundaes for dessert. My birthday was so much fun. I hope that your first days of schools will be great. My school has already started with the worst teachers ever. My parents.

King Ludwig II

Have you ever heard of King Ludwig II?

Well King Ludwig was crazy (so people tell the story.) He would build elaborate castles. He built a hill so that he could put a cave underneath. He would add many secret passageways throughout the castles.

This is King Ludwig. He was the king of Bavaria from 1864- 1886. The writing beneath him says "Of Bavaria and his castles" in German.
He would make decisions without consulting with his subjects even if the decisions were bad for the kingdom. Also, he would take his subjects money and use it on his projects.

In 1866 Prussia and Austria went to war. King Ludwig sided with Austria. The Prussians won. Austria and Germany were conquered by Prussia. Then Prussia and France went to war. Bavaria, under King Ludwig II's direction, sided with France. After the Prussians won the war, Prussia led The New German Empire.

In 1885 Bavaria was having financial troubles and King Ludwig's advisors declared him insane because when the bank was threatening to take King Ludwig's property he did not handle the situation the way that his advisors would have liked.  This led him to be pronounced insane. King Ludwig was imprisoned in Berg Palace. The next day he and his doctor drowned in Starnberg Lake. This was a surprise because he was a very good swimmer and the only person that could declare him sane died with him. The rumor is his guards took him to Lake Starnberg and drowned him.

This is the cross that shows where King Ludwig was found dead.

How do you think Germany is?

In Germany people are much like us. Most people here know English, they wear the same clothes as us and they are as modern as us. If you thought that they went around wearing old fashioned clothes then you are wrong. Really the only reason that I remember that I am in Germany is because I miss all my friends, and all of the signs are in german.

Today when we were in the English Garden we saw a man playing the crystal harmonica. It was so pretty. I can't believe that he can play it without messing up the notes.

This is not the same man but this is what it sounded like.

First day in Germany!

Today was my first day in Deutschland.

I woke up on the airplane at 2:00 in the morning in U.S. time and 9:00 in the Morning in German time.Once we landed we rented a car for a couple of days and we drove to our house. This is our house.

Then we went on a walk for my dad's birthday and we went to a couple of beautiful churches and we got some ice cream.

While we were walking back to the metro station we saw a man dressed up like a sand statue.

First Day of the Trip

Yesterday was the last time I would see my home for 3 1/2 months.

Right now I am in my grandparents house so that we can see them again before we leave. We are going to be renting a home in Munich. The home will look like this. Our house starts on picture 11.

I am really excited to go to Germany. I am going to be homeschooled while I am there. I am really lucky to have some of my friends visit us for a week or two.

Keep in touch!

What Should I Bring

For Germany My Family is Packing Light

We are packing for our adventure and I'd like your help. We are bringing all of our electronics, including iPod, iPad and computer. We are trying to pack clothes that will go together with almost anything.
These are the types of clothes we are bringing. There are many different outfits that can come out of these clothes.

If you were going on a three month trip what are some things that you would not be able to leave the house without?

We will be living next to this beautiful garden, called the English Garden. This is only a small part of it.

About My Blog

Hi this is Cecelia Schweitzer.

My family and I are visiting Europe for a couple of months this year. We are going to be living in Germany but we will be visiting Italy, Romania, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, and maybe Croatia and the United Kingdom.

München

I am writing this blog because I want to share my travel adventures with you. Every new place that I go I will post something called “Where in the world is Cecelia Schweitzer.” [In the 1990s, there was a popular show called "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego"] This is when I post a picture and some clues of where I have just visited. Then when I get back to Germany I will tell you where I was. I will also share the new local recipes and I will talk about the people that I have met.

I hope that I will have as much fun as this trip sounds. When we go to Venice, Italy I want to ride in a water taxi. When we go to Austria we are going to a conference where we will be doing 5 days of science experiments and I hope that they will be entertaining. In Romania I want to visit Transylvania and visit the castle that the story of Dracula was based off of. I want to go to the United Kingdom and visit London and the London Bridge. When we go to Switzerland I want to visit a chocolate boutique. I am really looking forward to my trip to Europe.

This is the castle that Dracula was based on.
Vlad the Impaler was who Dracula was based off of.
